Lister Interview Process

Round 1:
60 standard, non-computer related, aptitude questions (including English). The questions were not very difficult but the time was less, only an hour (or 75 mins, not sure). There was no negative marking, so it’s important to attend ALL the questions. If you cover Agarwal and FACE (Pre-Placement Training Materials) topics it should be enough.

Round 2:
Only around 40 were selected for the next round. The second round was a HR round. They asked general stuff like strengths, weaknesses, why lister?, why do you think we should take you?, etc. If you have participated in culturals, they’ll ask about the events and stuff. Learn as much about the company as possible and the technologies they use.

Round 3:

Technical round. 21 people were selected for this round. Many varied topics were asked. One of my friend was asked to draw the ER diagrams for a database (She said that her interest was DB and DW). One was asked about a mining algorithm which he used (He said that his interest was Data Mining). For some EEE and ECE students they asked about Bernoulli’s theorem. For me and some others, it was weird. They asked basic math, biology, and chemistry questions. First, the interviewer saw my resume and read that I prefer Java, so he asked me some basic questions like what is java byte code, jvm, and oops concepts. Then he asked me to write the binomial theorem, then he asked me how much ml of blood is one unit and what is the oxygen-carrying component of blood (he read that I had donated blood in my resume). 450 ml and hemoglobin are the answers btw. Then he asked me the difference between one mole and one equivalent. And also what is the value of Avogadro’s number.
This whole round was weird and unpredictable. One of my other friend said he liked cars and he started asking questions about the different types of engines and stuff. So be careful about what you say as the topic of interest.

Finally 11 were given FTE offers and 4 (not sure) were given internships. The major hurdle with lister is the first round, where majority of people are eliminated. If you cross that, then you have a good chance at cracking the interview. Be thorough with all the things in your resume and be familiar with what you say as your area of interest.

Good luck. If you have any further queries, feel free to contact me.

Savitha Kumari | Mu-Sigma Interview Experience

(Name: Savitha Kumari VG
Dept: B.Tech IT (2015 batch))

Mu-Sigma is one of the companies for which preparation cant be overnight (well yes all other companies are the same too but there will not be any concepts to brush up on for mu-sigma the night before).

You have to be mentally prepared, fast in solving aptitude questions, be a good and a clear speaker.

The interview process in our University was pretty straight forward.

The first round filtering was done by conducting an Aptitude Test (15 questions 25 minutes +1 for correct and -0.5 for incorrect answers) which tested both speed and accuracy of the candidate. The questions were tricky but easy. They can be cracked with logical thinking and quick calculations. For example: A question on which symbol follows the given pattern will analyse your ability to arrive at a logical conclusion.

And there will be easy questions on quantitative aptitude involving intimidating numbers which test the accuracy of calculation and time management. Even if you know the procedure to solve those, the faster you solve the better will be the chances to get through. This is what they look for to filter from the first round.

A Problem Solving round had a pseudo code given and output was required to be written. This was where the second filtering was done so I suggest to practice tracing simple codes to get outputs. If you are comfortable with it this is very simple to get through. Don't panic, Work calmly.

Video Synthesis is a round where we were asked to synthesise a clip shown. It is synthesising not summarising. Synthesis of Ramayana would mean "If you steal another man's wife you will be doomed" but you know that is not a summary. Be crisp, Write what you understood not what happened in the clip. (I personally wrote only about 12 words)

Group Case Study round will have a case study given to your group which the group members will "Analyse" the case study and come up with suggestions to the interviewers who will be the clients. This is where the speaking skills and being a team player matters. Don't argue, don't keep mum, speak out you will be through.

Finally there will be Personal interview rounds where they try to know as much about you as possible. Speak the truth, be frank, keep the charming smile on. Be confident in the face to face interviews a small falter and you will be shown the exit door. Be ready to tell that you are a hard worker and are prepared to give the maximum for the company.

That is it, So all you need is a calm and clear mind always throughout the process.
Scores are sometimes taken cumulative or one at a time, whatever be it give your fullest you will get through easily.

Designation: Developer
Package: 5.4 LPA (CTC)
Eligibility Criteria: CGPA 7 and above with No standing arrears

Rounds Details:
Number of rounds: 3
Topics to concentrate on: Java, Data Structures & Algorithms, OOPs, Web Technologies, J2EE basics etc

Details about Each Round:

Round 1: Written Round ( Technical and Aptitude MCQs )

Questions  were categorized  into 4 or 5 separate sections.
- Aptitude
- Java
- JS,HTML,CSS
- etc ( I don't remember section names exactly )

Round 2: Face to Face Interview

Number of Interviewers: 1

Topics: Java, DS & Algorithms, Resume.

Details:
- Questions about Java Multi Threading, Java Exceptions, Java Collections, Java Generics etc
- Some simple  DS, Algorithm questions
- Questions based on your resume

Some Example Questions ( that I remember ):
- Say In a Java program 3 Threads are present. If an Exception occurs in one of the threads, will that particular thread will terminate OR All the 3 threads will terminate.
- Given a list of Strings , Return the list of unique strings ( order doesn't matter ). Try to use data structures in Java Collections If possible.
- Basic questions about Generics and why Generics.
- In resume I had mentioned that I have knowledge about some Design Patterns. He asked some questions about that
- etc etc

Round 3: Face to Face Interview (Final Round)

Number of Interviewers: 4. But only 2 of them asked most of the questions.

Topics: Java, DS & Algorithms, Resume

Some Example Questions:
- Java Multi-Threading and Thread Synchronization.
- Reverse a Linked List.
- Convert a Binary Tree into Linked List. ( I dont remember the exact question )
- from resume, they asked to write code for a design pattern.
- etc

General Details and Advices:

- I told the interviewers that I know J2SE and  am comfortable in that. So I was asked questions from core Java.
For those who knew J2EE and Web stuffs, some questions will be probably asked from that.
For some students they asked about the "Projects" mentioned in their Resume.

- Resume is one of the most important factor. Questions will be asked from resume.

- Almost every face to face interview may start with questions like " Introduce yourself " or " tell me about yourself " or " what should I know about you ".
Be ready with answer for that. And tell them about your "technical knowledges and strengths" Rather than your school name and 10th marks.

- You will asked to write code in A4 sheets in the Face to Face interviews.

- When ever you are asked a DS & Algorithm question. They will see your approach. Even if you don't get the exact solution, your approach and thinking capabilities matters.
And most of times, If you tell the solution or partial solution or approach running in your mind to them, They will give you some hints to make it more perfect and optimal. So don't say "I don't know the answer". Try to think of some solution or approach and tell them.

- Do not panic. Don't think about whether you will get selected or not. Keep your mind relaxed. Think well and answer the questions with out hurry. Sometimes you may tell wrong answer in a hurry. After coming out of the interview room , you will realise that you knew the correct answer. So keep you remind relaxed so that it can think and answer.

- Area of Interest and Projects matters. In certain rounds, most questions may be asked from that.

- If you are preparing java from Complete Reference book. Please make sure that you have latest edition. For us the text book was 5th edition of that book.
Some parts of the book are out-dated. For Example the Java Collections chapter in the 5th edition does not use Generics since Generics was not there in java when that edition came. Also try to learn the latest features of Java. And your college syllabus is Not the boundary of that language.

All the Best. You will get what you deserve. Make sure that you deserve more.Intuition, Knowledge should be the primary goal. Marks, Money ,all other stuffs are secondary.

The questions were thought provoking. They asked me on the alogrithms that we wrote and the mathematics behind each of those techniques. They also aked me to trace the graph of a few curves and explain why they were deployed in machine learning. A few questions on algorithms and programming was asked.
The next was a HR interview.

Of all the personal interviews i attended this was the most interesting and thought provoking, but u can manage and crack it if you are really good in your area of interest. The interview went on for 1 hour to 1.5 hours.

1. Most of the interview was concentrated on the resume. Like the questions were shot based on my project and the online courses i had done.

Prashanthi - Freshdesk INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE

Hello everyone,
Before I start off with my interview experience, let me introduce myself. I’m Prashanthi and I have completed my B.Tech in Electronics & Communication from Sastra University and I’m placed in Freshdesk as a product consultant. To add on to that, I was in the same state as you guys last year knowing nothing about what was in store for me during the campus selections. Coming on to the queries which many of you might have-Why freshdesk? It’s nothing related to core right ? It’s a startup etc etc. Before I share my experience let me give a brief insight on why Freshdesk! I have always loved client interaction and I feel that this job was tailor-made for me.The pre requisites are that you need to be a good communicator, clear and coherent, have the thirst to learn and must have some technical knowledge. To answer the other half please take a look at these videos, they are really short !
So,going on to my experiences,Freshdesk visited Sastra during the 8th semester and the eligibility was 7 cgpa with no arrears.
ROUND 1:
The 1st round was email writing. They gave us three problem statements for which we had to send emails. This round needed absolutely 0 preparation. For example, one of the question went this way :
Mr.Chan hails from China and he wants to book a ticket from Mumbai to Delhi using IRCTC website. However,he has some problems doing it.He has sent an email regarding this(A short one is given based on the problem). As an IRCTC support member, write an email to help him out.
ROUND 2 & 3:
After the email writing round, there were 2 rounds of Skype interviews the next day.It was just basic HR questions and they looked out for how you approach the questions. Many were customer oriented questions,as in,convince me to buy a product. You should be pretty good at cell phone & laptop features to convince them, this is where the technical knowledge helps. They asked me questions like if a customer is angry how to handle them,if they are irritated how to handle them etc.Be straight forward and put yourself in the customer support members’ shoes and answer those questions.I was interviewed by the product consultant head and my interview went on for 45 mts. There was elimination at the end of round 1.
